I have to admit that I’ve never ended a relationship with a “Dear John” letter and I’m pretty sure I haven’t pulled out the “it’s not you, it’s me..” line when trying to sell a reason to break-up…at least not since I was about 14 years old. But, when your relationship isn’t working out the way you planned, or when […]

Is a Paleo Diet Just For The Snobby Elitist?
So I was standing in a Dr’s clinic last week and the latest Time Magazine caught my eye (and not just because it wasn’t a Woman’s Weekly from 2004!) Inside was an article by Dr Mehmet Oz with the tag-line: “What To Eat Now The Anti-Food-Snob Diet” In this article, Dr Oz aims to dispel the myths that “boutique […]

Jo Fitton on Being a Cardio Addict: Low Carb Down Under
Low Carb Down Under Exercise is good for you right? Jo Fitton, co-ordinator of the Melbourne Paleo Meet-up Group told us her cautionary tale about the effects of too much exercise on her body and her psyche at the Low Carb Down Under seminar in Byron Bay. Her dry and witty account of her experiences with starting to run, […]

Crystal Fieldhouse on What is Paleo: Low Carb Down Under
At the Low Carb Down Under seminar in Byron, I gave an overview of the Paleo Diet and my thoughts on Paleo being about more than just what we are eating. I do think that Paleo is about eating, sleeping and moving in tune with our basic biology. A focus on all three will help us to “turn […]

Christine is the author of The Fat Revolution and Great Health is a Piece of Cake. In her presentation at the Low Carb Down Under in Byron, the lean Christine soundly dispelled the myths surrounding the conventional wisdom that saturated fat is bad for us and damages our heart health. She showed us some before and after […]

Ian Blair Hamilton and Cassie Bond on Coconut Oil for Alzheimer’s: Low Carb Down Under
Next up were Byron Bay locals Ian Blair Hamilton & Cassie Bond. This was a story that I was particularly interested in. I studied Neuroscience at uni and anything brain (or mind) related just totally fascinates me. Cassie’s Story Cassie shared her own journey to better health with us. A self-confessed “health-nut,” Cassie has tried raw food diets, veganism, […]

David Gillespie on Sweet Poison: Low Carb Down Under
First up at The Low Carb Down Under Seminar in Byron was David Gillespie, author of Sweet Poison and Big Fat Lies. This was the second time I had seen David speak (the first was last weekend in Melbourne) and he was fantastic! David Gillespie shared his weight-loss story with us, having lost 40 kgs since cutting out sugar and minimising […]

Jimmy Moore on The Story behind Livin’ La Vida Low Carb: Low Carb Down Under
(Be warned, I am not going to let the cat out of the bag too much because I don’t want to steal Jimmy’s thunder for the events yet to come in Sydney, Brisbane & Adelaide!) But I will say, that I think Byron locals got an unexpected treat in Jimmy Moore at the Low Carb Down Under Event this week. […]

Low Carb Down Under Byron Bay Wrap
If you are living in Australia and follow a Paleo or Low Carb Diet you would have had to be living under a rock (or in a cave) to have not seen the Facebook and Instagram buzz about the Low Carb Down Under series. Melbourne anaethetist Rod Tayler and Jamie Hayes, owner of Healthy Inspirations, managed to coax […]

21-Day Sugar Detox
Like many who have “gone Paleo” I feel like I have added sugar under control…Most of the time. Yes, there are times when I will go for a gluten-free cake or dessert at a restaurant. And, yes sugar has been the prime culprit in pushing me off the Paleo wagon in the past. But when I make chocolate and other treats at home […]

Crystal & Andrew Fieldhouse
My husband and I aim to eat quality, nutrient dense food (fruit and veggies that are seasonal and locally sourced or home-grown in addition to meat or fish that is grass-fed or wild-caught), get lots of quality sleep in a pitch black room, and train for functional strength and mobility. This blog is a reflection of our learnings and experiences with eating to a Paleolithic template, improving our sleeping habits, training in a Crossfit box, learning to cook and growing our own heirloom veggies.
